Medical Billing Management And Technology Advances
Excellent medical billing is about the workflow and process of organizing paperwork efficiently. The recent introduction of the HITECH Act and new web-based software has become vital in increasing the number of claims that can be processed and the accuracy of claim data.

The past 20 years has brought amazing advances in technology and it is likely that we are merely at the beginning stages of change. Medical billing is one of the industries that has advanced the most as it is burdened by paperwork. The claims that must be processed can create piles of paper that has an abundance of human interaction. This is changing rapidly as the move away from physical documents continues and the creation of digital document management takes over.

This also has reduced the amount of physical record space that is required to store documents. While some medical facilities have echoed the cautions of other businesses who felt uneasy about not having a physical copy of documents, this type of mindset is quickly fading as the reality of the digital improvements take hold. Now documents are not just improved in storage, but in the ability to search and transmit them instantly. Now claims can be gathered and filed within minutes instead of days, and billing staff can always locate copies of those documents quickly. In addition, there is more meta data surrounding the documents that is gathered without additional human effort, such as the exact date and time of submission, outstanding claims, and other related information. This makes record keeping and reporting much more extensive and reliable.

This also means that medical billing management has less need or people who are efficient at managing paper and more adept at computer related work. The ability to understand and work with various software, sometimes with specialized training, is a must in the current environment. It is because of this that current education at colleges in universities have added to their curriculum to include large portions of computer related coursework. Although the core classes need to understand medical billing codes and the related knowledge are still needed, the new systems in place will require people who can get up to speed on computer applications quickly.

This is good news for a young work force that is adept at technology and looking for ways to find stable careers in this field.

If a medical billing company doesn't have some sort of EMR software running on the Internet (integrated with their billing) I'd venture to say that medical billing company will be out of business within 5 years.

worksmart has been great. We signed up in May and, unlike our last billing company, they made sure our insurance checks came in with no delay in cash flow. We always get the same person on the phone and customer service has been excellent.
